Abstract. Hoffmann's critique of the multiple Fitts-law formulations (Shannon, Welford, original) and the underlying information-theory interpretation. Argues that the empirical-fit-to-data approach has favoured one form over the other for historical reasons rather than principled motor-control ones. The reference cited when motor-control theorists revisit Fitts's law's information- theoretic basis.
