Abstract. Baddeley adds a fourth component (the episodic buffer) to his phonological-loop / visuospatial-sketchpad / central-executive model of working memory, accounting for how information from different modalities is bound together. Important for designers thinking about cross-modal interfaces (visual + spoken).
