Abstract. The most widely cited HCI paper on Fitts's Law. Reviews the original formulation and several variants, recommends the Shannon formulation (ID = log2(D/W + 1)) for HCI research, and demonstrates the law's applicability to pointing devices such as the mouse, tablet, and trackball.
